Immanuel Kwabena Dreessens-Owusu is an Australian multi-instrumental songwriter of mixed race Dutch/Ghanaian heritage. Growing up immersed in the Australian coastal rock scene, as a late teenager he became interested in his African/Ghanaian heritage and the African origins of Rhythm, Blues and Rock ‘n’ Roll’ through the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
In 2016 he went over to West Africa to study with his grandfather Koo Nimo, a renowned Ghanaian High-Life musician, who taught him to play the Afro styles of Dagomba and Palm Wine Hi-Life. He returned from Ghana with a quirky brand of African and Blues-Rock Fusion.
“Immy Owusu’s Narcissitically Self-Titled and Debut EP” was released in August 2017.
