Stall Applications

Summer Season:
Thursday nights from 5.30pm,
4 January – 22 February 2018

Stall applications are now closed.

South Melbourne Market commenced operation in 1867 and has been serving Melburnians for 150 years. We are a treasured inner city landmark and a favourite amongst locals and visitors. Over 5 million people shop at the Market annually. The Market’s audience is very diverse, but skewed to the local area, many with high household incomes.

The Night Market draws on this audience but also seeks to attract a broader audience. By providing a unique fusion of food, music, entertainment, creativity and culture the South Melbourne Night Market caters to a new generation of Market-goers from the local and inner city urban areas.

The Night Market attracts around 5,000 people per night.

Market research shows that the South Melbourne Night Market visitors:

  • Have an average age of 35 years.
  • Both male and female (even split).
  • Nearly 50% of respondents were repeat visitors to our 2017 Night Market and nearly 90% of respondents said they wanted to come back again. Repeat visitation = great experience.
  • Food, particularly street food and food trucks drives visitation.
  • See it as a great way to socialise with friends.
  • Travelled from a variety of suburbs with local Port Phillip residents making up approx a third of visitors each week.
  • Overall satisfaction is very high: 95% rated our 2017 season as very good or excellent, up from 89% in 2016.

The South Melbourne Night Market is one of Melbourne’s most vibrant local night markets. It is a really fun place to come, meet friends, share some great food & wine and browse the stalls. The location is superb and well-supported by existing food and drink outlets in Cecil Street, and food stalls and food trucks on Coventry Street and York Street. Musicians showcase different musical styles each week.

Please note that the layout for 2018 will be similar to 2017. The Night Market will run along Coventry Street, Cecil Street, York Street and through the Centre Aisle of the Market. There will be more seating and acoustic bands only.
